This week in pictures

This morning I woke up with a headache and a stiff neck, so I decided not to write a long blog post , just post pictures taken today,  then take a nap.  However I do have 1 pearl of wisdom;......................................... " never pet a burning dog"

When I was growing up in Iowa we spent plenty of time on farms. I guess our culture was that of Country people ,   we knew  finding a horse shoe was good luck .  Now a day's  our culture is more urban in nature and  kid's wouldn't know a horse shoe  if they sat on one , let alone that it was good luck.  (And  having a rabbit foot key chain today might get you 36 months in prison for animal abuse)  .   Calder Race Course ( a local horse track)  mucks/cleans the horse stalls and ships the refuse to local farms  to help farmers build soil, every year I get 500 cu yards  and  in the I find dozens of horse  shoes .
Cultural views of luck vary from perceiving luck as a matter of random chance to attributing to luck explanations of faith or superstition. For example, the Romans believed in the embodiment of luck as the goddess Fortuna,[1] while the philosopher Daniel Dennett believes that "luck is mere luck" rather than a property of a person or thing.[2]
Lucky symbols are popular worldwide and take many forms.         The only thing  I believe is that the harder I work the "Luckier" I get. and the key to happiness is being grateful .( and that ain't no  horse shit)
The truck from Calder Race Track, a 65 ft. truck that dumps 100 cu yards of stable refuse , (thats a lot of  Sh**)

Spirtual Growth

John" stayed at a guest house and microwaved the soil several times , to kill any harmful bacteria that might contaminate the United States of America

A friend or relative of mine just returned from Jerusalem, Israel. This person we will call by the Synonym "John" , because "John" brought me back what Israeli Customs and the Dept. of Homeland Security might call Contraband ! When I heard "John" was traveling to Israel I responded my usual " get me a Tshirt" . The next day I thought why not e-mail "John" and ask for soil samples from The Holy Land to add to my garden soil ? The result was "John" brought me back soil samples from Garden Tomb and The Western Wall , So next time you visit me at the Farmers Market to buy salad you might also experience  some Spiritual Growth :)

A Weather Event

I'm fascinated by South Florida Weather events, Such as Frosts, Freezes, Tropical Storms and Hurricanes . All of the Hurricanes and Tropical storms I've been through are different, as if they have a personality. The same can be said for Frosts and Freezes. What they both have in common is South Florida is only at risk for a few hours a year. Tuesday night all of Florida was under a Freeze Warning , here in South Florida we were well on our way to crop damage . I covered the Garden at Work and arrived home at 11pm, a quick check of the temperature said 35 degrees , I looked out side and it was frosting hard !! I quickly grabbed blankets and quilts and covered the most sensitive plants . I finished and checked the temps again at 11:30 it was 37 degrees !! It's very unusual for the temp's to rise on a cold , clear and calm night. I slept a few hours and checked the temp's at 5 am it was 40 degrees . This weather event was very odd, Thankfully  South Florida was spared the freeze and left with only patchy frost ..
This picture was taken around 7 am , patchy frost around the pump
Lettuces were all frosted at 11pm,   they thaw out slowly in the sunrise with no damage

It's like that

For the last 9 years I put in my second row of irrigation sprinklers on on New Years Day. It has no Religious or Cultural meaning or significance . I'm very busy this time of year and I'm off New Years Day ..I suppose it has become a tradition , I listen to football on my ancient "Walkman" and glue irrigation pipes.... It's like that
Waste not , Want not......  when your shoes wear out use PVC pipe glue and electrical tape
